Sadhana is a perpetual state, where every aspect of life is used as a tool towards ultimate well-being. Another way of looking at it is – having mastery over our mind and body so we can use them as tools to engage with the world.
Either way, or through any other definition of sadhana – we are looking at an ongoing process within ourselves. So, there is no question of ‘is it OK to do everyday’. It is not even something you do. It is when you cease Do-ing.
However,
in casual conversation, we do sometimes refer to specific sadhana practices like meditation, yoga asanas, pranayam, nama japa etc.. as a sadhana practice or ‘sadhana’. And keeping that in mind, it may be recommended to do it ‘once a day’ or some other frequency.
Maybe, this Question is with regard to that.
Let’s reframe it a little,
Should we do our sadhana practice daily?
It depends on the sadhana practice. You should check with the teachers or Gurus from whom you learned this sadhana practice. They are the best people to tell you the right frequency for that sadhana practice.
Sadhguru, for example, has asked us to check our breath. If we are breathing we must do our sadhana practices that day. 😉 This is for specific practices he has given us.
Typically, for us to feel a deep impact of the sadhana practices – we should do at least some practice every single day. Maybe even multiple times a day (depending on the specific practice).
For example, traditionally, Jains will visit the temple and do pooja of the idols, every single day. They feel something odd if they have not visited the Jain temple on a particular day.
So, in short, the answer is that,
We must have some sadhana practice that we can do every single day.
For any specific sadhana practice – you must check with the teacher/Guru of that path, what is the right frequency.
