“Keeping an Akhand Diya at Home can be quite Easy!”
An “Akhand Diya” felt like something of great importance and rarity. Only a few places in the world could maintain one, with a lot of rigor and discipline.
Except, not so much. It’s actually quite possible for us to mantain an akhand diya at our houses, with a little bit of time and monetary effort.
It takes a bit of dedication to begin… but once you get the idea of what is needed, it is a steady activity. And having that little light flame bright in one corner of the house – always, at all times, through thick and thin is an amazing experience!
I took it up as my International Yoga Day challenge in 2020 (the year of the first dreaded COVID lockdoown) and then I can’t think of a home without the lamp.
Here’s my guide to setting up your own Akhand Diya! Give it a try, even if for a shorter period of time.
