Our Ancestor Related Karma, Pitru Paksha 2025

Over the past few years, couple of my grand parents died… It brought me close to death and what they call “crematorium” vairagya – the feeling of vairagya that sets in when we see a loved die, and their body being burnt (or buried for that matter).

Then I was at the Mahalaya Amavasya a few times in Sadhguru’s Isha ashram and over time I have gotten more thoughtful about the role of our ancestors in our life and what can we do about it

I have had a few experiences on the matter… One of the simplest ways to start with ancestor related rituals, is to think about them. Properly, think about them... understand their life stories and life circumstances.

This will help,

Clear our own bhaav and thought patterns towards our ancestors

Understand our current relatives (especially our parents) better as we understand their parents

Makes us feel more connected to a larger ecosystem. Today’s day and age where loneliness is rampant.. feeling connected to a line of ancestors helps us feel part of something bigger. For me, connecting with my kuldevi was hugely important piece… And this phenomena of kuldevtas is a result of our ancestors.

Very often it will help us understand our own current thought patterns that we have inherently developed.

So, lots of advantages to thinking deeply about our ancestors.

What more sadhana should we do for them? I share more in the current video… Pls watch 🙂
